been grateful for a cloudy sky
for the freedom to expose these hurts
to the open air, as if it might somehow
dry them up, make them heal over.
sunlight would shatter in an instant
the cold, unresisting calm
that makes it possible to keep driving,
keep eating, keep breathing.
