it is as i've always said:
you are a weather god,

a wind god, bringing
green shoots aboveground
with a quick warm glance,
leaving them to wither or
drown in the next moment

of inattention. you are
a young god, wanton,
heeding no calls for mercy
from the villagers below.

later you will become more
temperate, taking pleasure
in their prayers, accepting
their gifts of food and gold
in return for your mildness.

but for now you need nothing
except the joy of a first spring,
the strength of muscles
tested for the first time.
